DiscoveredArtists.com is an exclusive, fully curated, by invitation only online art gallery. No other site demands the level of quality DiscoveredArtists.com requires from artists who are represented on the site. DiscoveredArtists.com operates much like a traditional, main stream art gallery. It is not a "vanity gallery" that accepts anyone who applies.

How are artists selected to be represented and promoted on DiscoveredArtists.com?
A:
The team at DiscoveredArtists.com spends a great deal of time searching the Internet, art shows and galleries to find and collect information about those artists we would like to invite to participate. Once our site curators select an artist, we send out a personalized email to each artist, including reference to work that caught our attention and prompted us to invite the artist to participate on the site.

What if I'm interested in being on DiscoveredArtists.com but have never received an invitation to join? Do you have a way for artists to submit their work?
A:
Artists, photographers and sculptors who believe their work to be at the level of quality DiscoveredArtists.com represents are encouraged to submit samples of their work in one of the following ways: 1. Send an email with three samples of your work to: submitwork@discoveredartists.com 2. Send us a GoogleWave with samples of your work: discoveredartists@googlewave.com 3. Send us a link to your website at either address listed above. 4. Select a membership plan and upload three samples of your work. Your account will be activated upon approval. 5. You will receive an email indicating whether you have been accepted, and if so, directions on how to proceed.

How does DiscoveredArtists.com go about curating the artwork on the site so that it maintains the quality level it wishes to represent?
A:
The team at DiscoveredArtists.com continually monitors the site. For work already on the site we may remove pieces, until the site meets our quality standards. Newly submitted pieces are uploaded with only an image and title; once approved, the artist is notified, and the rest of the information can be uploaded. This keeps the artists from wasting time on work that will not be accepted. Artists may inquire about work not accepted, but we encourage artists to engage in self-criticism, to understand why one piece is accepted and another not. We may offer feedback to explain our decision and help the artists to develop and mature in their work. We see our role as "editors" and consultants to artists, encouraging them to present works that reflect their best creative output.

I don't pay to be on art sites. Why does DiscoveredArtists.com charge a fee to join?
A:
Somewhere along the line, the idea took hold that the online promotion of artwork should be free. This is a ridiculous belief. No service or product worth its weight in salt is free, including paint brushes, canvases, cameras, clay, developers, and foundries. Why should a professional company that has spent hundreds of thousands of dollars to launch and maintain an online art marketplace dedicated to the professional and effective promotion of artists and their work be free? DiscoveredArtists.com is an exclusive, fully curated and juried online art gallery. It charges a fee, among other things, to pay for the costs of maintaining its quality standards. The owners do not "get rich" from artist membership dollars. They are in the business following their passion for art, and to follow a dream, just like artists. If you want free, put your work on one of the thousand of free art sites out there. Without any selection process, these free sites make money from commissions and charges; but they are partially to blame for ruining the online art landscape by diluting the marketplace with sub–standard art; they have essentially degraded fine art buyer’s perception of what fine art can be, and engendered distrust in what they will be getting when they buy art online. They have desensitized average buyers to what true, quality artwork should look like. Free art sites have left an incredible mess in their wake, and it is up to high-quality, serious online art galleries to re-educate and undo the damage they have done.

Are there any additional fees?

Yes. An additional 3% fee is deducted from all artwork sales to cover credit card processing charges. One way for artists to offset this fee is to upwardly adjust the sale price of their artworks slightly.

There is no limit to approved pieces. Feel free to offer as many pieces as you like. However, please note that DiscoveredArtists.com is a juried site with a watchful eye on quality. All accepted pieces must meet our quality standards. We are here to assist artists in the continued development of their talent, as well as to promote and sell works of art.
