Assemblage
I have always had a love, almost a reverence for old well used items, things others might consider trash or might be stored away in dusty garages, attics and the back of closets.
I find it fascinating to put seemingly disparate elements together. There’s a part of me that enjoys shocking my viewers - a little. Making something totally new and unexpected out of old discarded parts, giving them new life is not something I ever expected to be doing. My work is about creating timeless compositions out of parts and pieces- to create fantastic things that never existed.
Encaustics
Having been classically trained, I have always had an eye for color as well as texture. In the use of Encaustic these two elements come together with a resonance that sings deeply. Working in Encaustic I work quickly and intuitively with colors, textures, adding in collage elements and found objects. My focus and fascination remains with the richness and luminosity of color, as well as, the wonderful surface textures. I like embossing into the warm wax with objects and creating silhouettes, exposing the layers beneath.
