AMERICANA ARTIST Joseph M. Getsinger was born and raised in Camden, N.J. in the 50s and 60s. Growing up he was always supported by his parents when they saw he was artistically talented even in grammer school. He followed this through high school and even when serving in the US Navy he drew cartoons which were used in cards sent out throughout the fleet. When returning to civilian life he studied under George C. Vail, of Audubon, N.J. who had a Wyeth style of painting himself which followed through in this artist's realistic Rockwellish style of art. This artist continued on after proper guidance by Mr. Vail and started created limited edition prints through Evergreen Publishing in 1974 under the guidance of his first publisher, Charles Lombardo or Trenton, N.J. His first published works were etching prints which quickly sold out especially his Humphrey Bogart portrait. Since then Joseph has published over 225 limited edition prints which include Historic Buildings, Waterfowl, Seascape, Landscape-Golf art, Firefighter, Police and Military art. He recently was commissioned by the US Marshal's Service to produce a related image. He has raised over one million dollars for the Burn Foundation for burn victims donating his originals and prints for fundraisers over the last 30 years. He is presently working on a project to paint still lifes of all the United States Armed Forces Services like the one featured on this site, titled: US MARINES. He enjoys working mostly with acrylics now, but has created original art with oils and water colors. He teaches art at a local college and paints often in his studio next to his home in Gloucester County , New Jersey.
