Jeff March Nature Photography
Raised in the San Fernando Valley northwest of Los Angeles, Jeff March expressed an early love of the outdoors originating from camping trips as a child with his father to the California Sierras.
His love for photography began in 1967. By chance, he was placed in a photo class to satisfy a fine art requirement to complete high school. What he learned in this basic class was to alter his life.
The images in his collection that have become his favorites in the 35 years he has been photographing, are the ones that he has had an emotional bond with, and immediately trigger fond memories. It is Jeff’s challenge to find the “unique” in nature- and do it in a refreshing way. Often these are subjects that are found in unusual lighting that he knows he will rarely witness again in his lifetime.
Trees, of which a few in the series are displayed here, have a special fondness for Jeff. They are most patient subjects for photographers, since they don’t go anywhere, yet their mood, shapes, hues, pastels, and vibrant colors change throughout the year. In winter, they drop their leaves, and begin the amazing leaf growing process all over again come spring.
The quiet beauty and tranquility of nature has been Jeff’s preference since a spiritual awakening came to him in 1974; the year he became a Christian. Many of Jeff’s pictures might be considered “inspirational”, for his goal since then is to capture in some small way, the beauty and miracle of God’s Creation.
His photographic subjects since 1975 have included insects, wildflowers, mammals, birds, inspirational-mood subjects, dew, sunsets, autumn color, soft focus, subject movement, barns, farmhouses, and western US landscapes.
Jeff's photographs have appeared in greeting cards, calendars, books, magazines, textbooks and wall decor.
He has collected nearly 40 editorial publishing "credits" through the years including AAA Encompass, Abbey Press, Argus, Audubon books, Capstone Press, Colorado Outdoors, Darkroom Techniques, Family Circle, Harcourt, Houghton Mifflin, the Lookout, Michigan Natural Resources, Ortho/Meredith, Reader's Digest, Reiman Publications, and the Sierra Club.
Jeff is a great-grandson of Sebastian Buscher, a German wood carver/ sculptor who immigranted to the Chicago area in the late 1800’s, and carved many religious sculptures, including the altars of Mary and St. Joseph at the Holy Family Parish, Chicago.
Please note: all prints are available unmatted and unframed, so buyers may choose these finishing touches for their own decor.
