Lisa Carney grew up on the Gaspe peninsula, Quebec Canada. Lisa holds a University degree in Visual Arts and furthered her studies over the years by experimenting with different methods and techniques.

She has chosen the name Asil to sign her art which is her first name spelled backwards and symbolizes her creative inner child.

In her current work, Lisa uses acrylic and collage to explore the phenomena of creating below the threshold of consciousness. To achieve this, it is necessary to produce spontaneously and intuitively, with no particular vision of what the outcome will be.

Surrounding herself with acrylic colors, prepared papers and found objects she begins her adventure. Her process involves, developing several paintings side by side, allowing her to experiment and play.

Colors speak to her and she lets them guide her as she goes along. Lisa’s medium of choice is acrylic but she likes using oil paint sticks from time to time. The papers she gathers, come from a variety of sources, and are stained, painted or stamped by hand so each piece is unique. These papers and images, along with other recycled objects such as tree bark, stones, wallpaper or fabric, are chosen because they are inspiring to her.

With a visceral method of creating, Lisa communicates bold and powerful expressions of her thoughts, feelings, visions and experiences. The resulting compositions often have, large sections of layered colors, vigorous movement and tactile texture. The abstract style is modern and contemporary in design.

The size range is from intimate miniatures to larger commanding canvases.

Art is both an exhilarating and soothing escape. It fulfills her need to execute and provides her much delight, balance and harmony. In the hopes of evoking a bit of the same emotions when someone looks at one of her pieces, Lisa is proud to present her subliminal gifts to you.
