A versatile photographer combining visual wizardry with technical sorcery - Montreal based James St Laurent, is a professional, equally at ease shooting fashion on location, a band in a recording studio, or stills on a movie set - he has had the opportunity to explore many different boundaries and styles. Initially pursuing a career in theatre as a designer, James studied both stage design, technical theatre and fine arts for 5 years. Immediately after he was hired as the Technical Director and In-house Designer for the Saidye Bronfman Centre Theatre (Montreal), where during his 3 year tenure he rediscovered photography. A short time later he started working as a commercial photographer in Toronto - returning to Montreal a few years later quickly gaining a reputation as a creative fashion photographer, earning an Art Directors Award for his photography for Pashu Jeans. He pursued projects in portraiture, travel, movie stills, as well as the music industry - specializing in cd covers and concert photos - culminating in a JUNO Award.Including exhibitions of Blues Legends and Canadian Musicians in concert - James has also shown his Montage images - first envisioned years prior to the advent of photoshop and digital photography.
