About the Artist Sam Liberman is a former civil rights attorney who has been painting for about 40 years. Since 1998 he has been a full time professionall artist. working primarily in oils and pastels. His work has been exhibited in over 50 national competitive exhibitions and shown at various galleries and museums, most recently at the the Butler Institute of American Art. where 33 of his pastels were on display at the well known Flora Giffuni Pastel Gallery from June through August ,2009. He is primarily a landscape painter, including depictions of land, sea, air and architectural subjects from all over the United States as well as other parts of the world. He still paints subjects in a recognizeable realistic manner, but over the years his style has evolved into free color reditions of the subject in which the colors are used to communicate his feelings about the subject rather than to represent its actual colors. Also the colors are often used to structure the painting partly in place of the traditional use of light /dark values for this purpose. He has not settled on a name for this style, but one of his colleagues, Mel Smothers, suggests that he is a "post-modernist sublime", and this will have to do for now.Sam frequently paints plein air scenes, but spends more time working in his studio. Most of his paintings represent landscapes, but he also paints floral settings and recently has been painting many figurative subjects.A more complete description of his achievements is available on his website, and he will be glad to furnish a full c.v on request. You are invited to contact him if you wish to be included on his list of email contacts with whom he communicates on from time to time.
