About This Artwork
The Abstract Constructions Series represents sculptures created by thinking about and using glass as construction material. Instead of starting with a sheet of glass and creating a design on that sheet, as in most traditional glass fusing. Altman starts with glass components and proceeds to build a sculptural form out of his kit of parts. This collage approach allows him to be more spontaneous and interactive as he is creating in fused glass. This approach also allows Altman to better express his creative ideas influenced by architecture, biology and technology in an abstract sculptural style rather than an illustrative style. Each of the sculptures in this series comes with a sturdy metal stand.
