About This Artwork
This painting executed in the Old Masters mixed-technique of egg tempera and oil is part of the series: THE GEM & MINERAL MUSES. The series explores the forces of inspiration through juxtaposing figures and the human spirit with the solid light of gems, minerals and the elements.
In this piece, a muse holds a giant fire opal as she wades in the dark waters. she stands before a mysterious tomb, the entrance illuminated by candle light. The earthen banks of the river morph into a fish that doubles as a docking area, while the right side of the entrance is protected by rocks shape-shifting into the face of a seer. Above, on the edge of the cliffs a procession of angels make their way down to the river, blessing the stillness of dusk as it covers the image in a mystical light.
The painting is set in a beautiful wooden frame.
