(The 1998 World Cup Soccer Finals in France)
With the tremendous success of the 1994 Opening Ceremonies poster for the World Cup Final Round Tournament in United States, Jack Nixon was asked to produce a new poster for the 1998 World Cup Soccer Finals in France. While sketching out the first few architectural designs depicting Chicago's venue of Soldier Field for the '94 poster, Mr. Nixon began to consider ideas for a new quadrennial series of classic lithographic prints that could be purchased by adults for sophisticated interiors.
Most, if not all sports posters have no business in sophisticated surroundings. Until now, the discriminating sports enthusiast has had no outlet to express his or her love for sports by framing and hanging poster graphics in conservative or professional spaces. Soccer is no exception. Soccer's history, pageantry, and international flavor helps make it one of the most beautiful games in the world. It is the perfect subject for a rich and elegant graphic style that can reflect all of soccer's passion and imagination.
Now there is an outlet for a new series of subtle and unique lithographic posters that can strenghten the tradition and satisfy the passion of all soccer aficionados.
Active in many sports and having played organized soccer in his youth, Mr. Nixon has always been drawn to the international flavor of soccer's world competition. Learning about soccer and the World Cup for his first design of Soldier Field in 1994 was a lot of fun. His extensive research also gave him a better appreciation for the game and the history of the game and its meaning to 9/10ths of the world's population.
