About This Artwork
In the nomadic Mongolian culture, a persons worth is determine by his livestock, especially their horses. The Mongolians are know for their horsemanship. They treat their livestock like gold.
They do not wast anythings. They are extremely self sufficient. They kill for food or shelter. They choose the oldest animal to slaughter for food. They make felt, used for clothing and shelter, from their camels. They eat yak meat, the fattier the better, again from the oldest animal. Mares milk is a staple, They make cheese and fermented milk from it. Fermented milk is a delicacy in Mongolian. It is an honor to be offered this milk when visiting a nomadic family. They are always on the move changing grazing land.
The children go to boarding school every winter, almost everyone goes. There is almost no illiteracy. The schools use to be supported by the Soviet Union. Since the Soviet fell apart, the Mongolian suffered. The Soviet Union subsidized the Nomads. They are just starting to develop their own economy by inviting industry to their country.
The Mongolian people and our Native Americans are now said to be relatives. They share the same stories, folk lord and religion.
