About This Artwork
In June of 2008 my parents, my brother, I, and our families spent two weeks in Tuscany. The history of the Renaissance, the sheer volume of artwork, and the thousands of churches and cathedrals (duomos) were overwhelming.
Inside the Pisa duomo as a tourist and a member of a mass of people, all I had was my Lumix DMZ-FZ50 the light was low. I knew the image would be overpowered by digital noise, but I needed to capture the symmetry and geometry of the place. I softened the focus in Photoshop to lessen the noise distraction and yet the image maintained the elements that pulled me in. I love the glow from all the gilded surfaces in the portrait of Christ.
