About This Artwork
My mother is an accomplished amateur horticulturist that would put many professionals to shame, her gardens spanning over eight acres of open areas, ponds, woods and marshlands. I visit her at least every other summer and I never tire of photographing her flowers, outdoor vignettes, and crafted environments.
I don’t know the heritage of clematis, but, to me, it has a prehistoric look much like a venus flytrap. The petals are simple and large and the stamens are bent fingers coaxing me in. So I took an almost Pictorialist approach, softening the pixels and embracing the slightly grainy texture of the shadows.
