About This Artwork
In June of 2008 my parents, my brother, I, and our families spent two weeks in Tuscany. The history of the Renaissance, the sheer volume of artwork, and the thousands of churches and cathedrals (duomos) were overwhelming.
Here you can see the village of Valgiano just down the street from the villa that we stayed in outside of Lucca. In this shot, I violated a classic rule of composition and allowed a visual line to divide the image perfectly in half horizontally. Still, because of the rich texture of the foreground below the village, for me, it works.
