About This Artwork
June is the driest month in New Mexico, and somehow it is always the month that we go on family vacations, leaving our garden to be tended by friend or relative. Last summer, while were in Italy and Croatia, New Mexico experienced one of the driest Junes ever, so the poor friend left to care for our lawn and flowers just couldn’t keep. We returned to an almost completely desolate back yard. I cried for a few days then I called a landscaping company to help us start over. Our new garden began springing forth in early May. I had not had california poppies in my garden for a few years because I kept forgetting to get them from the nursery until it was too late. The new plan for our yard included california poppies interspersed through our lawn. Now they are busting out everywhere in an explosion of orange. It is a gift to walk out my back door and be able to capture beauty in my own yard.
