THE DISCOVERERS - Joliet, Father Marquette, La Salle and Tonti will live in American history as fearless explorers who made their way through the Great Lakes and across this watershed to the Mississippi in the late seventeenth century and typify the spirit of brave adventure
which has always been firmly planted
in the character of the middle west. Presented to the city by William Wrigley Jr.

"The Discoverers" sculpture on the northeast corner bridgehouse of the Michigan Avenue Bridge is one of four sculptures commissioned in 1927 by the City of Chicago, the B.F. Ferguson Monument Fund, and William Wrigley Jr. The other three sculptures are "The Pioneers", Defense", and "Regeneration". The sculptor, J.E. Fraser, is most noted for designing the Indian Head Nickel (1913-38)
"The Discoverers" original pencil drawing on paper is 30 x 40" and took four months to draw in 1989. - $20,000.00
