Have you ever been to the Adler Planetarium and Astronomy Museum on Chicago's lakefront? If so, did you ever notice twelve large, bronze sculptures that appear high on the building's exterior corners? Built in 1930, the Adler is a regular dodecagon, or twelve-sided building. Adorning its rich, marbled exterior are twelve bold and highly stylized low relief images of the astrological signs of the zodiac (Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces, Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, and Sagittarius.) They were designed and executed in the Italian Art Deco style by the Italian immigrant artist and sculpture, Alphonso Iannelli (1888-1965.)

Having lived in Chicago his whole life, Mr. Nixon had never visited the Adler. While doing an art show a few years ago, the gift store manager came into his tent and suggested he visit the planetarium to consider the bronzes for possible execution. Being very critical and skeptical of the chance the zodiacs would be that interesting, he drove over later in the summer to see if the zodiacs had any potential. To his surprise, the bronzes had much more character than he expected.

For the first time, you have a chance to own richly detailed, signed and numbered lithograph prints of the Adler Planetarium's Art Deco Zodiac. 5x7" writing stationery cards with matching envelopes are also available.
