About This Artwork
I love this particular photograph for its simplicity and energy.
Nicholas Ganz, in his book, Graffiti World: Street Art from Five Continents, does not believe that graffiti is a new art form.
He mentions cave wall drawings, unearthed election slogans in Pompeii, World War II resistance messages on walls and 1960s and 1970s protestors using posters to express themselves.
Modern graffiti started in the late 1970s, he says, in New York and Philadelphia (where I was born), and now, it has spread all over the world.
