About This Artwork
Here is Suzie, posing languidly, for a long exposure. This small 4 x 5 print is among my early attempts at a 19th century printing technique called carbon printing. The image exists in a thin layer of gelatin, and is composed of pure pigments. In this case a warm Renaissance Black. This process was popular with the Pictoralists at the turn of the 19th to 20th century. Photographers like Edward Steichen used it for it's lush deep tones and archival qualities.
