About This Artwork
This painting is based on a friend of mine who came to visit, that is her sitting on the wall. She was not very happy, problems
with her boyfriend and a sense that life was passing her by. She envied my
single status and the apparent freedom that bought.
I for my part occasionally look on couples and remember some good times, wondering if I will have those feeling again. Although it was summer I
painted an autumn scene to exaggerate the urgency she was feeling and
although it was a busy day, only left her and a lone couple walking. I was
amused with how Chris Rock put it, you are either single and lonely or
married and bored; no happiness nowhere. While that is not entirely true,
clearly it is easy to miss what we do have while worrying about the things
we do.
