About This Artwork
Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake is perhaps the most popular ballet in all of ballet literature.
It is the story of a handsome young prince (not too smart) who falls in love with the very good Princess Odette. (She wears a white dress) but who committs to marriage with Odette's evil twin: Princess Odielle (She wears a black dress ) because he,( the prince ) is under the spell of a wicked magician.
When the handsome young prince ( not too smart ) discovers his error, he commits suicide right there in the middle of the stage with his true love, Princess Odette.
Turns out, that neither one them is very clever. Oh well...A silly story but the splendid choreography of Marius Petipa and the enduring music of Tchaikovsky will live on forever in the world of dance.
This splendid dance figure is captured in the midst of her signature move in the Second Act of Swan Lake.
It is choreographicaly correct and in every way celebrates classical ballet at it's best.
