Creating Emotions, Feelings, Memories Artist Statement

I create emotions, feelings and memories through fine art photography, presenting nature not as the lens captures it, but as I see, feel and experience it – an endless array of exciting colors, shapes and designs.

Within the beauty of nature, lies the essence of our souls.

Bio

Bruce K. Haley, Jr., a Charleston, WV native, has always felt the need to create. He experimented with writing, music, painting and crafts. While finding all these forms of expression somewhat satisfying, it wasn’t until he discovered photography, that he knew he had found a way to express his innermost feelings.

Bruce uses the camera lens as his paint brush. His bold and colorful presentations of nature has made his work much sought after throughout the United States. Since November of 2002, Bruce’s award winning art has appeared in over one-hundred exhibitions in West Virginia, Ohio, Kentucky, Colorado, North Carolina Michigan, and California. His work is included in many corporate and private collections including six pieces purchased by the state of West Virginia for their permanent art collection.

In Bruce’s words, “Photography isn’t about f/stops, shutter speeds or equipment. It’s about living, feeling, seeing. It’s about opening my mind to learning, not only about the people, places and things around me, but also, about me. Photography, for me, is life living, life giving.”

Featured Art Work

Ye Olde Grist Mill #3 - Limited Original of 250 A Limited Original of 250

The Glade Creek Grist Mill located in Babcock State Park, WV, was created by combining parts and pieces from three mills which once dotted the state. The basic structure of the mill came from the Stoney Creek Grist Mill which dates back to 1890. It was dismantled and moved piece by piece to Babcock from a spot near Campbelltown in Pocahontas County, WV. After an accidental fire destroyed the Spring Run Grist Mill near Petersburg, Grant County, only the overshot water wheel could be salvaged. Other parts for the mill came from the Onego Grist Mill near Seneca Rocks in Pendleton County, WV.

This is one of the most photographed scenes in the country. There was a time when I didn’t photograph what everybody else was doing, but then it came to me that maybe everybody else has done it, but I never have, and it’s never been photographed at that moment in time, nor will it ever be again. Capturing that moment was almost secondary to the peace and serenity that I experienced that glorious fall morning.

Ye Olde Grist Mill is a PhoDigital painting (see studio for style description) and available in the following sizes and prices:
7 x 10 - $105
10 x 14 - $175
18 x 24 - $210
16 x 24 - $310
20 x 30 - $390

All work is also available on canvas.
