Watercolor paintings and fine art prints Michelle Gengaro was born in New York City in 1970. She has enjoyed painting and creating art in various forms from an early age. She studied painting and illustration at Parsons School of Design in New York.Since then, she has worked as a children's book illustrator and an award–winning book designer, but her first love has always been painting. She first began exhibiting her work in galleries in 2005 and is always striving to continue to be a "working artist."Michelle cites Edward Hopper and Pierre Bonnard as influences, drawing inspiration from their subject matter, color, and composition. She says her greatest artistic challenge is getting the values of light and dark correct within each realistic composition. "Once the values are authentic, the painting springs to life before your eyes."Michelle's home and studio are in New York City where she still finds inspiration to paint around every corner. The artist resides with her husband, two daughters, and a turtle named Thor.
