pastel demonstration for one of my classes One of the most popular teaching elements in my classes is the direct demonstration for the students. We normally work in oil or watercolor but a new student expressed interest in the pastel medium, so I scheduled this demo in pastel using the well known church in arroyo seco new mexico, I used photo reference that i shot on site earlier in that beautiful setting. I try to schedule a live painting demo at least once a month and often paint along with my students on projects of my own.

my personal photo this is one of my latest " mug " shots taken at a large gathering of art enthusiasts. I really don`t like having my picture taken, so I rose to the occassion on this gathering.

between lecture and demonstration our classes are held in well lit, comfortable surroundings with an emphasis on learning and helping each other. most of the students are unable to paint through the week and on weekends, so we use the class time to block out everything except their desire to paint and associate themselves with the other students. we have an abundance of talent and most of the students are very serious with their work, but also know how to joke and keep the painting experience fun.
